Party! To start. Fall 2002 marked... well, it's been good, but it delivered a brutual 10th week for some of us, and a finals week that was almost as bad. The end of finals week meant no relief for some of us... the post-finals Friday was spent staring at the monitor, reading fun books forgotten since 8th week, and recovering from finals week with the wonders of the "nap." Of course, that wouldn't do at all. We're supposed to party after finals are done! So, umm, friends of Thomas were throwing a party, and we kind enough to invite me... throw in a day of Maxima meets, holiday shopping, and visits to Ikea, and I finally stumbled the 6 blocks to the party a couple hours late... Umm. Brief introductions ensured. I'm terrible with names, so you can guess that now- 27 hours after the party- I've forgotten at least half of the names of people who were there, since I didn't know anyone else there besides Thomas! To the point. Launched into Taboo after being introduced (again) to the jello shot and to the pet rabbit (rabbits! ). Taboo is a little different when you're playing with people you don't know. Hilarity ensures, of course. Subsequent games included Apples to Apples... which is basically a shouting match when you have 10 or 11 people. LOUD. Fun, yes. Chaotic? You could say that. Cranium was next. This is a relatively new one for me, as the Potluck group @ Sophia's only picked it up recently, too. I'm hopeless with the acting/music ones, let me tell you that... I haven't hung around with Thomas lately either... imagine me scribbling on paper with my eyes closed and Thomas guessing what I'm doing, or Thomas humming a tune that I recognize but haven't heard in years... OH BOY... People came and went throughout the party. Some left before I even arrived, Hannah left sometime before 2am, Julie showed up for a couple of hours, Kim (Dung-Nghi) never showed, Tutram (I guess she'd be roommate #4 of this apartment) came and went... rest assured that by 4am, there were still enough of us, we'd played a few games of 13 (aka Big 2)... and after a night of drinking that started at 8:30pm for those who actually understand the concept of running on time, people were pretty wasted. Yummy strawberry jello cheesecake, chocolate brownies, Chokolate nach Deutschland, rice krispy treats, a healthy dose of high-school era music (Kai and Pinay anyone?), and all sorts of other forms of goodness later, we were getting a little tired. Sacked out all over the apartment, which was well-stocked by our hosts with contact lens cases and toothbrushes (plus eggs for breakfast), sleep overtook the partygoers around 4:30 or 5ish. Morning was a little interesting. I know I saw people moving around around 10ish (yes, the grammar is correct!). Not sure who or where, though. (remember, I just met almost everyone last night!) Got up. Stared out the window. Stroked the rabbit. Read Time magazine. Drank water. Waited for signs of life. Viet Nam finally made his presence known. Gave Bao some water (hangover #1 ??). Explored the kitchen. Woke Theary up because we couldn't find anything in the kitchen. Scrambled some eggs with onion, green onion, and chinese sausage. Had pasta. It was good. Rest of the apartment finally woke up. Ate. Watched Spiderman on DVD. That's about when I left... 3pm. I left... for McDonald's $1 Chicken McNuggets. Well, and to check out someone else's aftermath. |
