Climbing at Tick Rock
Wow, talk about nearby. Head up PCH, right turn on Sunset, left turn on Palisades, Tick Rock is only a few miles up the road on the left side...
All sport climbing there, up a big pile of sandstone rubble that was formerly a part of the rockface. We trekked to the 5.6 slab climb at Suicide Rock nearby, trying not to slip and die on the crumbling footing, determined the 5.6 was doable but crappy, and headed back to the main area of Tick Rock.
Supposedly the ratings are a little weird, the book ratings from Climbing In the Santa Monica Mountains don't quite match reality. We ended up leading a 5.8 and a 5.9, I think. Fun and not too bad once you get used to how sharp the rock is at Tick Rock versus older places like Stoney Point. Things escalate to 5.10b and up pretty quickly, tho, which should make this a good area in the future...
Early pictures are from Nick's birthday (not from rock climbing), and the end pictures are from dinner at Mr. Cecil's Ribs after climbing with Bill and Annie at Tick Rock.
