The reason for ending the day before at a reasonable hour was for the decidedly unreasonably early day the next morning. Packed up at the luxurious Mercer Hotel Boria BCN in the wee hours of the morning to haul our butts to the airport for the first flights out-- back to Madrid for Matt, and the first flights of several back to the USA for the rest of us.
t'was good times hanging out inside Barcelona's El Prat airport til we had to part ways, a quick nap on the flight to Frankfurt, then slummed it in the Lufthansa lounge til our next set of flights. A Franziskaner weissbier for breakfast? Don't mind if I do. Unfortunately airport-wide delays struck despite clear blue skies, which would cause trouble later. Still, being stuffed onboard some of Lufthansa's newest planes, a barely one-year-old Boeing 747-8I (Intercontinental) helped a great deal, from the almost-excellent in-flight entertainment and the free in-flight wifi.
Not a bad way to end the trip!
