Tanzania
Brunch at Main St. Bistro the morning before leaving for Tanzania-- delicious ham and egg sandwich as well as waffle and bacon. Ran around a bunch for last-minute things (the exact reason for the early arrival), then through the pouring rain off to the airport for dinner and the Super Bowl. Watched the Broncos get slaughtered by the Seahawks over a caesar salad and gumbo, plus we caught up with the other half of the group, Chetan and Kavya, at the gate.
Little did we think about that nearly 20 hours later, we wouldn't be looking nearly as excited! Or we'd be just as excited, but a heck of a lot more groggy after a long flight to Istanbul and then another to Kilimanajro! Turkish Air did a surprisingly nice job with their Boeing 777-300ER's (nicer than Lufthansa's 747-8I's!) and almost as nice a job in their Boeing 737-900ER, although after 11 hours and 6.5 hours respectively, it was a long time inside airplanes!
The 2am arrival at JRO plus the ridiculous immigration/customs process didn't help either. Our fellow passengers had no concept of queues, and hence by the time we collected our bags, found our ride (thanks One World!) and did the hour long drive to Arusha, it was 4am and hence waaaaay past bedtime...
