Dubai and Doha
Dubai's old town may be smaller than expected, but Doha's was truly tiny. Souq Waqif had an impressive horse patrol, a little bread shop that made and sold cheap flatbreads like crazy to local construction workers, and a bunch of very nice botique hotels.
After a surprisingly short time we were done exploring the souq, so we had tried some (bland) brown flatbread, then wandered through the heat to the excellent Museum of Islamic Art. Unfortunately our previous education of Islamic art was insufficient to do the museum justice, and same went for our understanding of chess and ancient board games (a temporary-- and fascinating-- exhibit).
More wandering the mall that night, including a stop at Coffee Bean. 'cause a Southern California chain happens to like expanding into Asia and the Middle East as opposed to, say, the rest of California.
