Pi Day
Beijing Pie House for Pi Day! Superb Beijing "pie"-- basically oversized potstickers with delicious fillings. Lamb and spinach, pork and leek, etc. Skins were perfectly thick and pan fried, highly tasty. The pork and shrimp boiled dumplings were even better than the pies. Nom nom nom!
Lamb dumplings, pan fried, were also excellent, but only if you liked lamb. The spicy beef tripe was terrific, with a nice slow Hunan-style burn. Cold cucumber wasn't as good, but it wasn't bad. And I saw a bowl of noodles somewhere as well, but it was devoured before I could get a bite, so no idea how it was.
Dinner at Green Zone a few hours later. Organic Chinese food, some days it's awesome, but on this visit the Hainan chicken was terrible-- not particularly tender, juicy, or flavorful. Failure on in all aspects. The pork chop was much better; being an "organic" experience it wasn't too greasy, yet was still very tasty.
Oh My Pan afterwards for pastries; the taro cake there is excellent. Not as crazy as 85C Bakery's, but just as good. The sponge cake was equally good, although washing it down with Honeyboba's jasmine crystal (aka, ice) tea was a little excessive. And Honeyboba, like many of the better places, does an admirably consistent, quite tasty tea.
An excellent Pi Day. Good to see Alen for dinner, as well as Michelle, Matt, Sonia, Gabe, Mara, Kristina, Carley, Sonho, and Baby Ella earlier in the day for pi!
