Fooding
Starting off more fooding with the usual "food" from UCLA Catering. The standard campus "Italian deli" sandwich is at least edible?
Caught Alen and Victor at Mama's Lu for a tasty dinner and some catching up. The green onion pancake was a bit plain this time, but still tasty. Xiao long bao are getting better, catching up to Din Tai Fung; not quite there yet, nor are the spicy wontons (with the BBQ-style hot sauce here), but both are quite good. Main letdown was the beef chow fun, which is actually good if you ignore all the onions, but the problem is there's so much good beef chow fun in Monterey Park, why would you settle for Mama's Lu's version?
Quick lunch at Noodle World, where the gyoza are a ripoff (over $1 each?) and the lime-juice-and-chili-flakes pho is just strange. It's not bad, but it's not classic pho either.
Dinner with Hackett after watching a LAPD freeway chase at Paco's Tacos. Handmade tortillas are superb there, and like dinner the night before at Mama's Lu, t'was good to catch up with a friend I hadn't seen in a while!
