The Sonia treatment at BCD Tofu House. Generous ban chan and great service at a Korean place, yes, it does happen! Sure there's better soondubu jjigae (soon tofu) to be had, but BCD is an old standby.
Hand rolls at Chef Nozawa's new Westwood location of KazuNori, his sushi handroll spot. Bar seating only and while they do do cut rolls, that's apparently only on the to-go menu (although it sounds like you could get them if you ate in). I'm not a huge fan of warm loose rice that Nozawa does, but I know some love it. Fish quality is generally good, including the usual toro and blue crab standbys that Nozawa loves to feature.
Wasn't blown away, but it wasn't bad. A worthwhile addition to Westwood, and let's be honest, Westwood has been seriously lacking in quality sushi for a long time.
Ramen for dinner at Palms Ramen Yumeya. More rich tonkotsu broth, although not as crazy as many, and to be honest not as flavorful either. A solid meh. Char shu was pretty decent-- short of very good but the fatty style texture of both the mear ansd fat was better than average. Kind of hurts to be so harsh on this place, but with so much better ramen all over the place, why settle for average or even slightly above average?
