Switzerland and Liechtenstein: July 2017
An entirely average breakfast at Bohemia, then off to Arth and Mt. Rigi for paragliding with touch and go...
Having never paraglided before, this was one hell of a way to see Switzerland. It's one thing to see the lakes from ground level, and an entirely different thing to see them sailing through the air. We had perfect conditions for paragliding, with a perfectly located thermal enabling a nice, long 45 minute flight.
Arth was also a lovely little town, not as nearly as touristy as our next stop. By comparison, Iseltwald on the Brienzersee was lovely and somewhat touristy. Between the clearly-aimed-at-tourists parking lot and a ferry pulling in with a load of tourists... well, it was still sufficiently picturesque to be enjoyable.
Grindelwald was a mountain tourist trap, but it also happened to be the site of the Eiger Ultra Trail. Very unexpected to pull in and find a race finishing up-- t'was very cool to watch the top finishers running in after 50km and 100km on the trail. We tried to do a gondola ride up the mountain as well, but the best one was closing and the rest didn't look enticing enough to be worth our hard-earned francs.
Instead of tourist trap food, we headed back to Zurich for another typical dining experience at Bimi (sushi): reasonably tasty, but definitely not a good value.
