Bone Kettle
Watched UCLA get creamed by SDSU was even worse than Oklahoma, since everyone expected Oklahoma to win by a lot. So today's beatdown was... expected, not that it made it any more palatable.
Got one of the last seatings at Bone Kettle after the game, where, much like last weekend's restaurant visit to Bistro Na's, I skipped their best-known items, perhaps to my folly. Only this time it was for Bone Kettle's summertime menu. Cucumber habanero mule had just the right hint of spice to be a tasty drink, while the Singaporean chili lobster was disappointing.
Good heat and garlic in the lobster noodle but not much flavor otherwise, and not much to encourage interest. With the lobster still on the firm side as opposed to the succulent side, it was unfortunately clear that the lobster wasn't going to rescue the dish. The clams and donuts worked out much much better as the appetizer course. The yeow teow were pan fried for a bit more character, and the broth was delicious. However the clams were on the small side, with tiny bits of meat, and there were far too many empty shells in the bowl.
Much like Bistro Na's, not a convincing meal. But worth a return to try in the future to their most famous dish as opposed to the lesser ones?
