LA Marathon
Undaunted by COVID-19, a record 27,000 runners started this year's Los Angeles Marathon. The rain held off and temperatures stayed mild, resulting in good (but not great) conditions for runners. Something like 21,000 finished. And no complaints here-- 3:48:46 finish, much closer to a PR than expected. Top 17% of division, top 15% of gender, top 10% overall. Looking forward to next year!
Post-race lunch at Ippudo with Patrick, Frances, and Jaclyn. Patrick had a solid finish as well (3:54ish on a bad stomach!!), and the ladies got to watch us both limp over to lunch. Legs avoided collapse (especially my right leg...) although it was a close thing.
Post-race... photographs of some random medals-- such as this year's Beach Cities Challenge medal (sea turtle!). And of course, this year's LA Marathon finisher medal. Just to be clear, the Beach Cities Challenge is completely unreleated to LA Marathon. BCC is the trio of Long Beach Marathon/OC Marathon/Surf City Marathon.
Wrapped up post-race activities with dinner at Takao in Brentwood. Thought it would be good to try a new place, turns out it was overrated. The upgraded chef's choice "best" dinners were somewhat above-average sushi dinner and a decidedly sub-par sashimi dinner, and the albacore sashimi appetizer was a low-quality cut. With so many other sushi restaurants in Los Angeles, Takao is a hard pass.
