Thanksgiving
Temporarily joining the Chen-Wu family Thanksgiving. Stopped by The Alley down in Orange County the way for milk tea, which was pretty good-- their adding of cream to milk tea is quite tasty! However it wasn't quite tasty enough to say it would be worth a special trip, nor did it have the brown sugar streaking down the side as expected (maybe go back for the 'gram?).
Lan Lan and Mike said the box from Pendry's was crazy huge for just 3.9 of us (3 adults + their son Lucas), yet they still decided we needed two more gigantic trays of veggies plus a smaller one of gai lan-- and apparently were working on a 4th and a 5th veggie but forgot?? o_0 Lan Lan bought roast duck and roast pork too?!?!! (YUM! But so. much. food!) Either way the porchetta-style turkey was tasty but almost too dry (probably our fault), and the lobster tamales didn't shine til the salsa was applied. Julian Pie Company pumpkin pie plus homemade whipped cream was excellent, as was the apple cake.
Next day was Steve's Friendsgiving. He and his friends did a crazy gourmet meal, including chicken-skinned turkey deep fried, cupcakes, stuffing waffles, and pretty much everything homemade? Insane. And did I mention how huge the portions were? I waddled after the weekend, and it was only Friday!
