Greenland
With all the bad weather that Greenland (and Nuuk in particular) is known for, felt very lucky to have an on-time departure today back to New York. The beautiful sunny day, with minimal wind, actually made boarding via the tarmac and stairs close to perfect. Something like 42 non-revenue passengers (aka airline employees) made it onto the flight as well, which was pretty crazy too.
Some app glitches meant no idea where I was on the upgrade list, but the mileage cost to bump myself to the top of the list was very affordable, so I did that and ended up in premium economy again. The rockfish was pretty good, although perhaps not as good as the halibut on the inaugural flight, and aside from a broken lavatory, it was a pretty smooth flight back to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR).
Had a long layover at EWR so went for a walk on arrival before checking out the United Club, then spent a few more miles (no cash!) to upgrade from economy to premium economy again (Premium Plus) on the return, since I didn't want to waste a 6 hour flight without being comfortable enough to pull out the laptop and do a good bit if work. Catering in Premium Plus was pretty meh and there yet-another-broken-lavatory (two flights in a row!) to which at least one friend who works at United got a good laugh at.
In the end, was a solid trip, highlighted by a terrific inaugural flight to Greenland on United, a new appreciation not just of Greenland and its scenery but of the weather in Greenland, and some unexpectedly very aviation geek cool stuff.
