Singapore
What should have been an uneventful trip to Singapore started off as a bit of a mess, with an atmospheric river hitting Northern California and making a hash of delays out of all the flights in the area. Things ended up sort of up and down like crazy as weather-related delays and cancellations rolled across SFO, lucked out with my flight from LAX not too delayed at all (vs. the two departures after mine, which were severely delayed). The final bit of luck was enough other connecting passengers getting delayed that upgrade space opened up on UA 1 (SFO-SIN) so my upgrade finally went through about three hours before boarding.
Another person having a messy trip was Erick, who managed to make an even bigger mess of his trip to Singapore, and ended up departing several days later than planned, ended up on the same flight as me. Even crazier was due to the last-minute (last-three-hour) space opening up, his Mom decided to hijack his vacation and come as well.
With all the bad weather, once N26966 finally got into the air, doing an unusual routing, straight north for probably a hundred miles, then heading northwest over the Pacific Ocean, and into a bunch of bad weather off the California-Oregon border. Dinner service was badly delayed as a result, had to feel bad for the crew as the food sat in the ovens way longer than it should have. On the plus side, a few hours later, the mid-flight tapas weren't too bad. Chicken and mushroom and rice was forgettable, but the corn empanadas weren't too bad at all.
