UCLA BruinTech
UCLA BruinTech Spring Conference plus a ton of fooding. Hard to say this year's BruinTech Spring Conference was as good as last year, but that's in large part because last year's speakers, including Steve Yu, COO/CFO UCLA South Bay, were a very, very talented bunch.
Plus a big chunk of random fooding. Breakfast at Big Tomy's on Sawtelle is very affordable, at least if you stick to the basics. It's not quite as good as Breakfast Republic but it might be even more affordable. In contrast, the newly opened Chicha San Chen a few blocks north in Sawtelle's Little Osaka (aka Sawtelle Japantown) is very, very good, with individually brewed cups of tea for each guest-- and prices to match. This location is pretty quick compared to the other ones, at least on this visit, which is a plus, and they have a decent amount of seating.
Apparently Jam Jam is taking over quite a few Sunright Tea Studio locations, including the one on Sawtelle. Sadly they are not open yet, will have to try them when they open. Came back a few hours later for family dinner. Ramen Chikumo is pretty solid, with chicken and pork in their classic ramen. Not sure they beat Tsujita, but they're a good addition, and right next door to Chicha San Chen.
Some work-related fooding, shrimp fried rice at Mr. Noodle during the week is a massive portion, meanwhile a third work lunch was at Gushi. The spam fried rice isn't as good as Mr. Noodle, but Jason approved of his galbi.
