Birthdays!
First Margaret's-- a friend from UCLA-- then, unknowingly, Barry's old co-worker Crystal's birthday...
Margaret's birthday at Mu Dung San in Koreatown, off Western-- between Olympic and 11th (one block south of the Koreatown Galleria).
Margaret's heading off to Penn for law school this fall, and since I hadn't seen her since I graduated, I figured I should go to her birthday dinner. We had a pretty good time, but with only two guys eating, we had a hard time taking advantage of the "all-you-can-eat" part of the meal. If only Richard (Margaret's boyfriend) wasn't sick, we might have been able to put a bigger dent into the food available to us. Michele, Lee, and Mei did what they could to eat, but Jessica ordered her own dish in a heated clay bowl, so she didn't help much. We missed out on the beef tongue, too. *sighs*
Clockwise from left: Brian, Michele, Lee, Mei, Richard, Margaret, Jessica.
Mu Dung San is a brand-new Korean BBQ place... worth mentioning was something I never expected to hear, EVER, from the owner of an all-you-can-eat place. Well, from the owner's daughter. We didn't know she was the owner's daughter til she said mentioned it while serving us:
"Order more! I don't care! My mom owns this place, she might be bothered, but as far as I'm concerned, wait, eat more, we're open til 11pm."
Completely shocking. And kinda cool, too. I'll have to bring some hungry friends and come back... maybe she'll regret it? =P
With Richard not feeling well, things broke up pretty quickly after dinner. I called Barry up and met him down in Santa Monica, at Barcopia on Main Street. He was out with old coworkers for one of their birthdays, and they didn't mind having an interloper (me) along. Considering the amount of alcohol that had already flowed into the birthday girl, Crystal, I'd say the whole night went pretty well. Barry's golf coach, Tony, showed up, although that's one of the only names I remember from that night. (I remember a girl named Sylvia... and.. uh... ... everyone else's name is a mess. If you know their names, send me an e-mail and help me out!)
Once we got out of the private area by the bar and dragged everyone out onto the dance floor, things became even more fun. The music was pretty lousy in some parts, but half of us were throughly intoxicated and having a ton of fun!
Let's just say it was lots of fun. I just wish I could remember everyone's name!
