Sacramento
The Courtyard by Marriott Midtown is right next door to the UC Davis Health campus, and while there are some rather plan and some rather odd design bits, the overall experience is pretty good for a Courtyard. The lobby even is a bit more stylish than usual, although I didn't have much time to enjoy it, instead opting to catch up with Frances and Patrick for lunch at the former Macau Cafe.
The restaurant that replaced Macau Cafe, Chef Mak Noodle House, does a very solid beef noodle soup, a so-so cold cucumber, and then a classic, also on-point beef chow fun. Was great to catch up with Fratrick as well; sounds like we're all getting older and staying busy, and Patrick in particular is doing a terrific job with his running.
After getting back to Los Angeles, a bunch of random happenings. UCLA Health was running a photo shoot over at Royce Quad, a very indifferent dinner at Nick the Greek, and then a staff appreciation by Dean Stern from the Division of Humanities (donuts nom!). Was great to catch up with some of the Humanities managers I hadn't seen in a while, Kristina and Ana in particular, and to see everyone from HumTech as well.
Wrapped this random set of photos with the INSPIRE Debate Night at UCLA Luskin Conference Center. Some good questions on AI, a bit too meta, but honestly, good to hear from such a diverse and well-spoken audience. Was good to go, and also good to catch up with Tuyen and some fellow Geographers as well after the debate.
