Hawaii 2010
A far too early morning to get to the airport, then off to Honolulu. Slept most of the way, but as we circled Pearl Harbor while on final approach, got our first glimpse at all the cool stuff we'd be seeing on the trip.
Even in Hawaii, airport food is pretty nasty, but soon enough we got on a little CRJ-200 and hopped over to the Big Island. Got a great view of Waikiki, Maui, and Kailua Kona from the air. Picked up the rental car, checked into the hotel, played limo service for Justin (sorry our rental PT Cruiser wasn't the stretch Maybach you're used to, Mr. Garten!), and then met up with Sophia and the first wave of the rest of the Tsai and Mo families for dinner at Wasabi, a Japanese restaurant conveniently three minutes' walk from the Royal Kona Resort.
Or inconveniently far, due to the intermittent pouring rain we had during dinner. Yes, some of us got rained on. It wasn't that bad til we looked up halfway through and saw the umbrellas above us holding several gallons of water. Eeek. That's the tropics for you!
Bedtime was early due to the information from Sophia that we had to be up at some absurdly early hour the next day for the zipline...
