Australia
Starting off our last full day in Australia with the famed A.P Bakery (All Purpose Bakery)'s terrific meat pies. They have an extensive menu that tempted us to order more, but I think finding redemption vs. all the other medicore meat pies we had was worth it by itself. Plus we had to save stomach space for the next stop, which was Burwood, via the Central train station. Made for some more nice architecture before more Chinese food-- and turns out I had only scratched the surface of Burwood's Chinatown on previous visits (doh!).
Oh well-- just have to come back!
Did some more shopping on the way back, including raiding Woolworths (lots more Tim Tams to go with the iced vovo Tim Tams acquired earlier), and then one more fancy meal to celebrate Diana's birthday.
Had some hard choices to make with limited stomach space. Inside the Sydney Opera House is Bennelong, which, like Vue de Monde, is top-rated (3 hats, 17-rated), but we'd just had a Modern Australian meal at Vue de Monde. Ended up going for another meal where Australia is well-regarded, steak. Margaret and some others are rated higher than 6HEAD, but located almost under the Sydney Harbour Bridge and with views of Sydney Opera House, combined with the ready availability of a MB7+ tomahawk on the menu, made 6HEAD seem like a good choice.
The outside patio has great views when it's not blocked by cruise ships, while the inside is more of a romantic vibe. Went for the latter although the patio was tempting, and ended up with an excellent meal. Their wine selection is not as impressive as Vue de Monde, but the dry aged beef on display shows their chops, and the meal, once it got going, was excellent, with a detailed presentation of the tomahawk both before cooking as well as after, not to mention being both the perfect size as well as quite tasty. We might have gone overboard with the appetizers, but both the oysters and scallops were enjoyable, and it was probably smart to have broccolini in addition to the salad.
With Diana's birthday celebrated a second time, I think we could definitely call it a successful trip.
