After attending a BMW Ultimate Driving Experience earlier in the morning, it was off to catch Matt, Sue, and Ophelia for dim sum at Tang Gong. Like yesterday's dim sum at Atlantic Seafood, Tang Gong is involved in a price war with some of their neighboring dim sum places. As expected, the dim sum isn't the best, and service was even more indifferent than expected, but the pig ear was solid, and the feng zhao (chicken feet) were superb.
Pai gut was okay, the chow mein was indifferent, yet oddly hit the spot. Bean curd with abalone were meh, luo bac guo (turnip cake) were basic but adequate. Gai lan was properly cooked, but you could almost taste the tap water, and they arrived whole, like how are we supposed to eat this? (they did cut... eventually and begrudgingly). Har gow looked excellent when served, although on closer inspection they didn't hold up quite as well; still pretty solid for such an affordable dim sum place. Shu mai were kind of like har gow-- not as pretty, but large and plump, and quite solid considering the affordable price. Gow chow gow were huge, with skins way too thick, and a mild flavor. Ngau paak yip (steamed ginger beef tripe), like the har gow and shu mai, seemed to epitomize the food: not the prettiest, not the best, but execution was more than adequate.
Overall the experience was decidedly lacking, but considering the price, it wasn't too bad. Closer standbys like NBC Seafood, while not perfect, are less uneven than Tang Gong is, and service is better.
Sue, inspired by yesterday's liter-sized mini buckets at Lucky Fruitea, made us go there for boba today. They have a few different drinks in the 1 liter size, but sadly only two of them were available today. I went for a tripe green tea (apple, guava, grape) that was small and acceptable, Sue and Ophelia went a little crazy. The fruit/milk tea mini bucket was apparently a bit too heavy on the citrus, might have to try a different flavor next time?
Back to the 4M house for video games after. Tons of fun with Mario Kart 8, Mario Party, and some others, then a rather decent but uninspired pizza from Fat Tomato Pizza for dinner.
